Interdistrict Programs

Interdistrict Programs help local school districts expand the opportunities students have to interact with peers from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and from other school districts.

  • Design, implementation, and evaluation of interdistrict programs;
  • Facilitation of community-wide forums concerning interdistrict interactions;
  • Assistance in collecting student data for state and local purposes; and
  • Exploration of the use of new technologies to improve student links across districts.

Exploring Career Options in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

This program is designed to encourage middle school students to enroll in high-level science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses and to explore careers in these areas.

Regional Internship Program

This is a nationally recognized School-to-Career program. High school students have the opportunity to participate in medical and healthcare internships that are designed to explore medical career choices and develop the skills necessary to succeed in the healthcare industry of the 21st century workplace.

School-to-Career

EDUCATION CONNECTION staff provide leadership and support to districts by developing partnerships and activities designed to build a collaboration between schools and the business community.

Student to Student (S2S) Internet Safety Program

S2S is a federally funded grant program that was recently established as part of Connecticut’s strategic plan to combat online child exploitation. The program is managed by the Connecticut State Police, with oversight from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The S2S program focuses on Internet safety, recognizing cyber bullying, and predator awareness, while encouraging healthy and safe interactions among students. EDUCATION CONNECTION staff are currently working with Brookfield and Newtown High Schools to implement this program. Students are working collaboratively in teams to develop a presentation (that includes a digital media component) to be presented to schools throughout the region. Peer presentations run from January through June 2010.
