School Attendance:

• Compulsory school attendance has changed from 16 to 18 years of age.
• If a 16 or 17 year old student wishes to withdraw from school, the parent or guardian must personally appear at the school district office and sign a withdrawal form.
• The school district must provide the parent or guardian with information concerning the educational options available in the school system and the community.

Entrance Into Adult Education:

• If a 16 or 17 year old student wishes to enter Adult Education, they must bring with them a copy of their official withdrawal form with parental signature.

Changes to the GED Test:

• GED Tests released as of February, 2002 have been completely restructured. The new GED Tests are more clearly aligned to the standards developed by the states to measure student attainment of necessary skills, making it a credible option for states toward a high school credential.
• Effective January 1, 2004, no GED Tests taken with the old Spanish GED Test forms can be combined with the 2004 Spanish Language GED Test.
• No Walk-ins can be accepted for GED Testing and the test cannot be given to anyone arriving late.

• All 17 or 18 year olds must submit a copy of the official withdrawal form from the school, signed by their parents if 17 years old, and they must wait for the six month period before registering to take the test (unless their ninth grade class has graduated).
